Folds Vessel 6
As with all vessels from the “Folds” series, the shapes and textures explore how we perceive landscape of the earth vs ladscape of the body. This particular piece combines the lines of a female body with the surface reminiscent of weathered rocks. When creating this one I was thinking about the scars and marks gifted by life to both people and rock. What is imperfection and what is uniquesness?
In the end I was faced with this question twice while working on this vase: once when I made a decision ot explore the idea of “uneven” surface, and again when I got the final piece out of the kiln. It didn’t look how I expected and I thought it a failure. Because that is how expectations work, they allow only one outcome out of endless possibilities to be the worthy one. Life knows how to do irony.
So here it is - a vase that has taught me a lesson by defying expectations twice.
